Château Saint-roux

Super easy location c. 1 hour from Nice. Absolutely stunning spot and location - absolutely recommend staying at least one night, I wish we had stayed 2! Rooms are very clean and cosy, very good showers. The restaurant was fantastic, we noticed loads of locals had come in for dinner too which is always a great sign. The grounds are beautiful with multiple gardens and areas to explore. The tasting is held in the shop which is a gorgeous old converted barn, they also serve coffee and pastries. We loved our stay, such a beautiful and peaceful place.

We arrived in the evening and went straight to dinner after checking in, rather than going to the room. We checked the room for bed bugs and found various shedded skins in the corners of the mattresses and live bugs crawling on the duvet and sofa bed. We went to find someone to report it, but reception was closed and the restaurant staff informed us that there wouldn't be anyone to help until the following morning. We decided to not stay the night with our 15 week old baby and went to find a different hotel to stay in overnight. We returned the following morning to report this to the staff, expecting an apology and a refund, however, we were told by the manager that they knew there were bugs in the room, but they were not bedbugs and they had been tested by experts. However, when challenged on what kind of bugs they were, they couldn't give an answer. We then got told someone was coming to talk to us, at which point they told us someone had just been up to the room and looked at the bugs and they weren't bed bugs, still no confirmation of what kind of bug though. At which point we had two conflicting stories, however when I checked with the very lovely cleaning staff, they confirmed someone had just been up to check for bed bugs. They did offer to clean the room, however we felt this was not adequate. We were told we had to pay the full amount for the two nights, despite having a room with bugs that they may or may not have known about. The only compensation we were offered was a bottle of wine, but ultimately, I was not comfortable staying in a room with my baby with mystery bugs. Extremely disappointed as we had come here specifically to stay in this hotel.

My family and I had an opportunity to stay here for almost 2 weeks and we were so happy for the hospitality, attention to details, friendliness of staff and the way you feel looked after. The place is very much a relaxed environment, ideal to recharge batteries. With a 9 month baby, they ensured that we had everything we needed to have a good time and accommodated us really well. Amazing property, great bread and cheese, plus the wine is top quality. Love all the sustainability elements on everything that happens there. Will be back and thank you for looking after us.
